Transitional Style: Bridging the Temperature Gap

Let's keep things nice and easy this week, shall we? Because even though we're starting to feel that lovely warmth creeping in, especially here in SF as the evenings cool down, it isn't quite warm enough for just a tank or t-shirt. Throwing on a jacket is a go-to for elevating an outfit, but sometimes it feels like the jacket itself can overshadow the look if it doesn't quite mesh with everything else.

Lately, I've been absolutely loving chic and well-executed layering that feels totally effortless but, let's be real, actually takes a little bit of thought to pull off so seamlessly. This approach works well in cooler cities like San Francisco or as a simple way to transition to shorts weather in warmer climates while still incorporating a layer to be safe (I know I need one). I'm particularly drawn to the idea of grabbing a t-shirt you already own – maybe it's a cool find from a national park, a vintage graphic tee, or even something you snagged from a concert merch booth – and layering it over a fitted striped turtleneck. Not only does this give you that extra bit of coverage when a breeze rolls in, but it also instantly adds this cool, edgy vibe to your original outfit. I've gathered some outfit inspiration that I'm currently loving, and (as always) you can find all the links on our Pinterest below. Happy layering!

Visioning Your Inner Landscape: Beyond the Traditional Board

While vision boarding is often a popular January activity to bring in the new year with intention, let's consider a different application: vision boarding our thoughts. This directly aligns with the theme of Wednesday's post, where I explored the idea of our minds as a magnetic force holding the potential to catalyze actions that ultimately bring our envisioned life into tangible reality.

This concept was inspired by several things that I feel have all happened for a reason:

  • A powerfully reflective conversation with a dear friend (Hi G! 🙂) which led me to start reading The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

  • A conversation with another dear friend (Hi Chan! 🙂) about how to use applications like Canva and Pinterest to bring our vision to life if we can’t quite parse it out in our minds

  • A friend I’ve observed courageously sharing her vision boards monthly on social media (Hi Isabel!)

Instead of solely focusing on external aspirations, a mental vision board aims to cultivate the fertile ground of our minds, fostering a positive mindset that empowers us to act upon our goals.

I explored this personally this week as a way to recharge and focus on refining my internal dialogue, recognizing it as the starting point for creating change.

I think this could be an interesting and fun activity to try over the weekend, either alone or with others, and use as an opportunity to recharge. I found a lot of energy from it.

I used Pinterest to gather images that resonated with me and then arranged them in Canva. I’m sharing it with you below in hopes it inspires you too 🙂

Hopefully, this encourages you to explore this concept further this weekend – whether visually, through journaling, or through having a conversation with yourself on a walk, recognizing the power of your inner landscape.

3/3. Food for Thought

Certainly, prayer is an ever-present help intime of trouble. But why should you wait for trouble to make prayer an integral and constructive part of your life?

Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

When I read this quote, I took Murphy to reframe prayer from a religious concept to one that goes “beyond creed, affiliation, ritual, ceremony, formula, liturgy, incantation, sacrifices, or offerings, and is “a belief or mental acceptance and receptivity about that for which [they] pray.” (Murphy, xvii)

Murphy beautifully reframes prayer as a focused mental state, a powerful tool for cultivating clarity about our intentions and deeply embedding them within our subconscious. This everyday practice of intentional thought and feeling transcends religious boundaries, allowing us to consciously shape our inner world and bring our goals into tangible reality. Consider how you might weave this mindful "prayer" into your daily life, aligning your thoughts and feelings with the outcomes you desire.
