What’s a standard we hold ourselves to that may not be fair to hold others to?

Lately, I’ve been noticing how frustration can creep in. It’s not always because something is truly wrong. Often, it’s simply because something isn’t being done the way I may have went about it. We all carry internal systems such as preferences, priorities, habits, and values that shape how we move through the world. When someone close to us operates differently, it can feel like friction.

But maybe that friction isn’t about them. Maybe it’s about our own expectations disguised as universal truths.

There’s a quiet discipline in recognizing when our mind is trying to convince us that different means wrong. It’s humbling to pause and ask whether this is actually a problem or just not our way.

Letting go of that instinct doesn’t mean abandoning standards. It means choosing grace over control. It means acknowledging that someone else’s approach might be just as valid, even if it doesn’t mirror our own. And in that space, relationships breathe a little easier.
