On Wednesdays, we’ll reflect: See below for some some of what I’ve learned from the week to inspire reflection, a well-being soundbite, and a view of my wish list / recs / things I’m currently obsessing over. 🙂

Note: A quick reminder that as I soak up the final moments of wedding planning, I'll be keeping our newsletters a bit shorter over the next few weeks. I appreciate your patience and can't wait to share more aspects of the day with you all soon!

W.I.L.T.W (What I Learned This Week)

Running Toward, Not Away

“It generally feels better to run toward something than to run away from something. Focus on what is pulling you in, not what you're trying to avoid.”

James Clear, Atomic Habits

A friend nonchalantly brought this quote into our conversation this week, and it’s been echoing in my mind.

It’s a deceptively simple idea, but one that reframes how we think about decision-making. When at a crossroads, whether personal or professional, it’s easy to evaluate one of our potential paths based on what we don’t want: discomfort, fear of the unknown, you name it. But asking ourself “What am I being drawn toward?” might elucidate the path you want to.

The shift from reaction to intention can change how we move through uncertainty. It’s not that negative emotions don’t matter. In fact, they often serve as the first signal that something needs to change. But they’re not the whole story. The real clarity comes when we pair that discomfort with a vision of where we want to go.

Here’s what I’m sitting with:

  • Progress feels different when it’s fueled by vision. Avoidance might get us moving, but aspiration gives us direction.

  • The “from” can be a catalyst, but the “to” is what sustains us. Clarity often comes from emotional contrast. Taking a moment to notice whether we’re reacting or reaching can help us choose the path that aligns with who we want to become.

  • Negative emotions aren’t useless, they’re signals. But they’re not the compass. Let them inform the journey, not define it.
