On Mondays, we’ll lock in together: See below for a motivational tidbit to start your week, perspective on movement I’m focusing on, and music I’m enjoying I’d like to share with you 🙂
1/3. Motivation
“The reason you want it so badly is because the version of you in the future already has it”
I’m not going to say much else on this one. And that’s intentional.
When you read that quote just now, where did your mind go to first?
Take a sec and think about it. You might have multiple things you are focusing on right now( a project, a personal goal, a new skill) that could answer this. But I want to focus on the first thing. What was the single, immediate thought that popped into your head?
That thing, whatever it is, is more than just a desire. It’s a direct message from the person you are becoming. It's the strongest signal you have for the actions you need to take today. Your future self already knows what worked.
This week, we’re going to be more in tune with that signal.
Note: I am not sure where this quote originates, but it popped up on my FYP TikTok feed. Here is the creator (who seems to be new and growing - give some support if you like it:) )
@seang208 And that’s why we get up and show up everyday #growth #goals #entrepreneur #dream #running
Intention for the Week: Use the very first ‘thing’ that came to your mind as the special push you need. Focus on aligning your daily actions with the version of yourself who already has it.
2/3. Movement
How to Love Your Comeback
As someone who thrives on routine, even two and a half weeks out of my normal rhythm, despite how relaxing a honeymoon is supposed to be, can be a tricky transition. Movement is a daily nonnegotiable for me, and while I stayed active on the trip, it was definitely outside of my typical fitness routine.
I hadn’t been in a fully serviced gym (I don’t count hotel gyms given limited equipment) for nearly three weeks. Getting back was surprisingly hard. I almost had a moment where I was questioning the opposing feelings: I missed the gym immensely, yet the first couple of days back, I felt out of place and definitely not excited to be there.
I finally feel re-settled, and I’ve been thinking about what actually made that transition simpler, both mentally and physically, no matter if you’ve taken two weeks, two months, or two years off.
Check your ego at the door. The only way to break a short or longer hiatus is by walking in. Do not jump back into your old training split (mine is Push/Pull/Leg) or try to push your old weight if it feels uncomfortable at first. I gave myself two weeks to simply go in and do what I felt like doing that day. Sometimes, it was just a twenty minute walk or stair stepper. Other times, it was a random combination of chest, shoulders, and back. This took all the pressure off and allowed me to ease back into things. I’m returning to planned training this week, but at first, walking in and doing what felt good was enough.
Remember everyone is there for themselves. No one likely remembers if you were gone for a while, and no one is paying attention to how much you were squatting or benching before or if you went down in weight. The only person judging your re entry is you (and you shouldn’t be that harsh on yourself).
Plan the workout outfits. Typically, I rush and grab any sports bra and leggings from the clean pile. For those first two weeks back, I made sure my favorite legging pairs and sports bras were washed and ready. I might even buy one new item to give myself an extra little push. It is surprising how much feeling good in your gear helps you step through the door.
3/3. Music
Some fans may be buzzing about a certain pop album, but in my personal book, what’s more exciting from the past couple of weeks is the RKS album release from September 26th.
Ah, I just love them. Seeing them live was an electric experience that only deepened my appreciation. They are one of those bands you fall in love with completely after seeing them perform right in front of you. Live music has a way of turning a casual listen into a core memory.
They released their new album, bones. It’s their second album in two years, and I can only hope this means another tour is coming up soon. They are definitely a band I’d see live over and over, no matter if I've done it before.
Right now, my favorite track is “Texas Hold’Em.” Give it a listen.
