On Mondays, we’ll lock in together: See below for a motivational tidbit to start your week, perspective on movement I’m focusing on, and music I’m enjoying I’d like to share with you 🙂
Hi friends, thank you for being here! With the holidays approaching, I’ll be leaning in to spending time with family and friends and moving to a shorter version of The Root 9 through year-end. I’ll be sharing Motivation on Mondays, What I Learned This Week on Wednesdays, and Food For Thought on Fridays. I’m going to take some of that time back from preparing a shorter newsletter to think about next year, including what is in store for The Root 9 and how I am thinking about evolving it as we approach its anniversary in February 🙂 And, in the spirit of The Root 9, being more present during the holidays, closing the year out strong, and recharging. I hope you are able to do the same ❤
Motivation
How you do one thing is how you do everything.
Dylan said this quote to me earlier this week and mentioned it was one of his favorite life mottos…seeming a little surprised when I immediately pulled out my phone to text myself the quote and cue it up for this week's newsletter. (Maybe that’s a sign of how The Root 9 has made me more acutely aware of day to day moments, which I was quite fond of 🙂 )
When we think about this idea, I think it is perfectly timed as we get closer to closing out the year. Work tends to slow down a bit, and we may find our minds drifting into "holiday mode." But closing the year out strong, despite the holidays, is just as important as closing out an important sprint in the middle of the year.
I like how this motto reminds us that the way we show up consistently carries across all aspects of our life. While our mind may have conflicting priorities at times, or be stressed when there is a lot to do, this is a beautiful reminder to take the present moment as an opportunity to practice your consistent approach to life.
When you reframe any moment — whether it is cleaning the kitchen or tackling a project — as an opportunity to practice an approach you are proud of that speaks to your character, it allows us to be reenergized. It encourages us to be more present and attentive on bringing back the best version of ourselves, no matter how small the task is.
Intention for the Week: Recognize the connection between your smaller actions and your long term approach to life.
