On Mondays, we’ll lock in together: See below for a motivational tidbit to start your week, perspective on movement I’m focusing on, and music I’m enjoying I’d like to share with you 🙂

Hi friends, thank you for being here! With the holidays approaching, I’ll be leaning in to spending time with family and friends and moving to a shorter version of The Root 9 through year-end. I’ll be sharing Motivation on Mondays, What I Learned This Week on Wednesdays, and Food For Thought on Fridays. I’m going to take some of that time back from preparing a shorter newsletter to think about next year, including what is in store for The Root 9 and how I am thinking about evolving it as we approach its anniversary in February 🙂 And, in the spirit of The Root 9, being more present during the holidays, closing the year out strong, and recharging. I hope you are able to do the same

Motivation

“Practice sharing the fullness of your being, your best self, your enthusiasm, your vitality, your spirit, your trust, your openness, above all, your presence. Share it with yourself, with your family, with the world.”

Regardless of which holidays you are celebrating or who you are spending them with, one thing holds true for all of us: this season shifts our focus from how we individually spend our time to how we show up for others. There is an energy in the air when we are surrounded by family or friends we don't see often. It makes the days feel less about our personal routines and more about connection.

One reality I am sitting with is that you never know if the group you gather with this year will be the same next year. Life happens, people move, and certain circumstances may impact what the holidays look like next year. Because of that, I’m thinking a lot about how I’m showing up. Am I present, or am I just physically there while my mind is drifting elsewhere?

It’s easier to be attentive during a dinner, but I want to focus on being present in the smaller and quieter memories. Like a car ride from the airport that may not be an uber but filled with people in the car you don’t typically share it with, the morning coffee shared with a guest who isn't usually in the same space as you, or the simple act of setting the table for dinner. Are we approaching these moments by sharing our presence, or are we retreating into our phones / minds?

As I’ve gotten older, It’s become easier to slip into solo habits and routines, often prioritizing that without realizing it. This week, I want to reframe those quiet intervals. Whether I am preparing an appetizer or unpacking a suitcase, I want to remember that these small moments aren't just for me. They are a chance to offer my full presence to the people I love.

Intention for the Week: Remember that offering the gift of your full attention to the people and moments right in front of you is more valuable than what you’ve physically wrapped up.

What do Tom Brady, Alex Hormozi, and Jay Shetty all have in common?

They all have newsletters.

If you’re building a personal brand, social can only take you so far. Algorithms glitch. Reach tanks. But a newsletter gives you real ownership and revenue.

That’s why we built a free 5-day email course that shows you how to grow and monetize with sponsorships, digital products, and B2B services.

Usually we charge $97, but for the next 24 hours it’s free. Sign up for the course today.
